Today's adventures (and it's only noon!) :)

Sharon Templeton and Emily Duke reporting: We awoke this morning to no water and no power! We do have a generator and some water in their reserve. Even with the generator we can't charge our electronic devices or use our hair dryers! For those of you who know me (Sharon), the hair clip is coming in very handy!

We ate a delicious b'fast of scrambled eggs, homemade biscuits and homemade cinnamon/raisin bread.

Then it was off to the church in Bambili where we will hold the youth rally to practice the opening assembly and skits. We had no bus, but were assured that it was only a short walk to the church, and young Kate Sinclair could show us the way. The walk down was very pleasant. The team handed out fliers for the youth rally to anyone they passed. I say "they" because Richard and I (Emily) wimped out and rode down with Ben in the car.

Practice went well. We all had a good laugh, and feel good about doing it for real next week.

Up a slippery hill we reviewed game rules for the youth rally with Pastor Quilty. Some local kids joined in the fun! Three girls came back into the church with us and sang some songs while we decorated for the youth rally. Sharon's day was made when she got to talk to hubby Terry on the phone! I (Emily) am jealous.

It began to rain and the church bus wasn't around, so we began gearing up for a slippery trek back up the mountain for lunch at the house. That's when Pastor Shelburne mentioned that he had Ben's car keys, and the fun really began. Let's just say that it doesn't take long for an already wet red dirt road to become very slick with mud! Did I (Sharon) mention that there were huge potholes and very deep ruts in this road? Why didn't I notice this on the walk down?? Anyway, Mr. Nichols proceeded to take us on the ride of our lives! First time Emily, Denise and I have ever been mudslinging!! He about scared the living daylights out of us! Miraculously, we didn't get stuck but very likely put a few dents in Ben's car. Thankfully, it is a four wheel drive car!

We were welcomed back to the house with a yummy lunch. Now we must run. I believe the van has arrived and we are off for an afternoon of seeing the sites. Several of the team are greatly looking forward to a swim in a real African waterfall. Ben promises it will be nice and "refreshing"! Pray we get electricity and water soon! Ta-ta for now.

  2. Richard has the keys, but Mr. Nichols was driving? Smart move!!!! lol
I can sooooooo picture this in my head! Thanks for the laughs this morning! (It is probably much more fun to read about it than to experience it.) After reading these transportation posts, my prayers for the team's safety have become much more fervent!
